Paul Russell

British born Paul was brought up on a strict diet of Eddie Cochran, the Beatles and the Tamla Motown sounds of the sixties. By the 70’s he was spending all his pocket money on albums by Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie and Roxy Music. Until Punk arrived and he actually picked up a guitar and started to make music himself.

He soon settled on the bass guitar as his instrument of choice and, although he can scratch out a rudimentary tune or two on the six string and the piano, he still maintains his love for the engine room of the band, the link between the rhythm that drives and the melody that charms.

In the early 80’s he started recording with his first Teac 244, which was quickly upgraded to the 8 track version. Recording and music went on the back burner during the 90’s, but in 1999 he installed Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 onto his home PC and started it all again.

First Releases

In 2004 he released his first indie album “Pop Friction” under the band name Calamity Pop, featuring Singaporean singer Zuq Iruall.

The leading track from this album, Rollercoaster, gained significant airplay on Singapore radio and was featured on MTV Originals back in the day when MTV was actually about music.

2006 saw the release of their 2nd album, “Pop Addiction/Club Friction”. This was a double album, the first full of original pop/rock songs, and the second featuring 8 dance remixes of the first album. Again, this went on to moderate success in local radio. But Paul being the lazy sod that he is never really took it further.

As such, these two albums also marked the last of the tracks that he would write and release in the pop/rock genre.

New Direction, More Recognition

Between 2005 and 2007, he created a new album, Nagraan, made of new songs and some remixes using vocal samples from Bollywood songs of the 40’s and 50’s. It took nearly twelve months to get sample clearance, but this CD was signed to EQ Music in late 2008 and distributed in retail shops throughout South East Asia.

All the time during this decade, his little home PC studio has grown into a professional quality composer’s, mixing and video edit suite, Calamity Studio. It was here that the bedding tracks for Monjour and Analog Universe were laid down.

Now based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,Paul makes corporate videos and other wonderful creative stuff. His work takes him all over South East Asia and the Middle East. He has been happily married for over 20 years to a very patient and encouraging wife, Amanda, and has two wonderful sons, Michael and Connor.

Cass Anawaty

Cass has been involved with music for over 20 years. As a guitarist he has studied with fingerstyle legend Alex DeGrassi, Flamenco purist Mark Taylor, and renowned Jass performer/instructor Don Latarski.

His years of work as a musician and composer led him to found Sunbreak Music LLC in 2002 as a platform for media composition and production.

As he realized a need for ‘proper’ mastering in the digital audio world, he began extensive study in the ‘black arts’ of audio mastering and surround sound. He gains personal satisfaction through helping artists realise their dreams.

Cass is also currently performing with 2002 for live engagements.
